If you’re looking to buy an solar watch, one of the most important things you’re probably asking yourself is how long does it last. The battery on a normal watch has an average lifespan of around 2-5 years depending on the quality of the watch. This is quite a long time and if you only have to worry about replacing the battery a few times throughout the watches lifespan is it really worthwhile to get a solar powered watch? In my opinion it is 100% worthwhile, and throughout the rest of this article I will give you all the information you need to decide whether or not you want to invest in a Seiko solar watch. Let’s first start with how long a Seiko solar watch lasts.

How Long Does a Seiko Solar Watch Last

Of course we were not able to test the lifespan of a Seiko solar watch during the last few weeks, however, we were able to test the effectiveness of the solar charging of the battery. Going off of Seiko’s webpage, their solar watches are advertised to last for six months when fully charged. We have not owned a Seiko Solar watch for six months so we could not 100% guarantee this accuracy, however we have had our Seiko solar watch for over three weeks now and it is still completely accurate as compared to the official world clock. When we first purchased the Seiko solar watch we had to wait only around a week for shipping and once we had read the owners manual we decided to put it to the test right away.

After taking our Seiko solar watch out of the box and adjusting the fit to my hand we set it out in the sun to charge. This process is quite quick thankfully and my new solar powered watch was fully charged and ready to go within three hours. I have been wearing the watch ever since and have loved it. I first charged the watch roughly three weeks ago and it has been working perfectly. One of the great thing about solar powered watches is that they can charge whenever you are in sunlight or next to a powerful electrical light. Unless you never wear your watch outside it is unlikely that you will need to take it off to charge since it will get sufficient energy from your day-to-day activities.

Is Getting a Seiko Solar Watch Worth it?

While I cannot speak to the long term nature of owning a Seiko solar watch, I can say that in my month of owning a Seiko Solar watch I have taken it off only to shower and sleep. They are comfortable, classy and most importantly to me, environmentally friendly. One of our goals here at Solar Sena is to promote a sustainable future for our planet so that we might leave our world a better place than we found it. From pollution to global warming, to overwhelming amounts of trash and waste our planet is being destroyed by the people living here and we want to do our small part to reduce that impact. While a solar watch may not seem like a big deal, what you might not know is how much waste is produced from batteries every year.

Batteries are one of the worst things in the world when it come to disposal and people around the world simply throw their batteries in the trash. Improper disposal of batteries is illegal in some places, however across the globe somewhere between 28 and 30 billion batteries are thrown away each year. That’s nearly 80 million batteries thrown away every single day. When you buy a solar powered watch you can help mitigate some of that waste. While it might not seem like alot, every battery saved by using a solar watch is a battery that will last far longer and reduce the waste that humans are producing.

If this was the only benefit of wearing a solar powered watch I would argue that it is worthwhile to invest in a Seiko solar watch, however when you invest you are also getting all the benefits of a classy, high end watch. The Seiko solar powered watches are sleek, with classy designs and high quality manufacturing that ensures that the mechanical components of your watch last as long as the solar ones. My Seiko solar watch is definitely my new favorite watch and I would highly recommend their brand to anyone who is looking to purchase a new, sustainable, and classy looking watch.
